Q. Who is most likely to get a Sinus Infection?

A. Anyone can get a sinus infection. The first signs of a sinus infection is a cold or nasal allergies. You can put yourself more at risk of getting a sinus infection if you:

  • Are exposed to cigarette smoke (both first and/or secondhand)
  • Have ear infections (children)
  • Have GE reflux (Gastroesophageal reflux)
  • Have cystic fibrosis
  • Have an immune system problem
  • Have deviated nasal septum
  • Have poorly functioning cilia

Asthma and sinus infections often go hand in hand. Swimming, breathing cold dry air or attending over-crowded day care centers can predispose a child to sinusitis.
